Matt Giteau is one of the most talented and exciting players in world rugby. Matt has represented the Australian Under 21 and Sevens teams and has been a permanent fixture for the Wallabies since 2002.
At just 28, ‘Gits’ is considered among the ‘elder statesmen’ of Australian Rugby with 89 Super Rugby appearances for the Brumbies and Western Force and 91 test caps. Matt has scored more than 500 points for the Wallabies, making him fourth on the all-time Australian individual point-scoring table.
A superb reader of the game, he has an electrifying turn of pace and is among the most skillful players of the modern era. His versatility has seen him selected for the Wallabies at halfback, flyhalf and inside centre; but it was his dominance at flyhalf during 2008 and 2009 as the team’s first choice goal kicker that has cemented him as the cornerstone of a re-invigorated Wallabies team. After three years at Western Force, in February 2009 Matt decided to return to the Brumbies - the club where he started his career.
In October 2009 Matt was awarded the John Eales Medal, Australian Rugby's highest individual annual award, and was nominated for the IRB Player of the Year award. In the form of his life as we move closer to the 2011 rugby World Cup in New Zealand, the next few years could be his best yet.
