JAMES ERSKINE was born in Southport, England in 1953. James migrated to Australia in August 1979 to set up IMG's (International Management Group) operations in Australasia and, as Managing Director, pioneered sports marketing in this region in the 80s and 90s.
James set up SEL (Sports & Entertainment Limited), in July 1997 dealing in all areas of sports and entertainment and the property world in partnership with David Coe, Tony Cochrane and Basil Scaffidi.
Over the last three decades, James has been extremely influential on the sports and entertainment marketing landscapes throughout the World, having managed icons such as Muhammad Ali, Greg Norman, Tiger Woods, Sir Jackie Stewart, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Clive James.
James is regarded as an expert on International Sporting Television Rights. He represents clients as diverse as Michael Parkinson, Captain Mark Phillips, Zara Phillips, Shane Warne, Andrew Hoy, Matthew Lloyd, Michael Lynagh, Todd Woodbridge and Matt Giteau.
In sport, James has been involved in events as diverse as the 1987 AMERICA'S CUP, INDYCAR, Australia's leading golf tournaments, including the AUSTRALIAN OPEN. He steered the AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER'S ASSOCIATION in their negotiation with the ACB for the first collective bargaining agreement. SEL are the largest shareholder and marketing arm of V8 SUPERCARS. SEL are commercial strategic advisor to the AUSTRALIAN RUGBY UNION, act as the Licensing Agent for THE CRICKET WORLD CUP, THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE and THE POWERHOUSE MUSEUM.
In September 2003, James established Liverpool Street Gallery which exhibits the best of Australian contemporary art alongside select solo exhibitions of renowned international artists. James as an experienced art collector, together with Liverpool Street Gallery Director, William Nuttall, also Director of Niagara Galleries, Melbourne, bring over four decades of collective expertise, knowledge and a shared passion for collecting contemporary art to Liverpool Street Gallery. The gallery exhibits both established and emerging Australian artists, including DICK WATKINS, KARL WIEBKE, STEVEN HARVEY, PETER SHARP, DAVID SERISIER, KATE TURNER, KEVIN CONNOR, AIDA TOMESCU, BRETT MCMAHON and ANWEN KEELING. The annual calendar of exhibitions also includes Niagara Galleries' artists such as RICK AMOR, GUNTER CHRISTMANN, JOHN KELLY, DAVID KEELING and KEVIN LINCOLN together with international artists TONY BEVAN (UK), JENNIFER LEE (UK) and ENRIQUE MARTINEZ CELAYA (USA). Whilst predominantly exhibiting innovative abstract, realist and figurative painting, Liverpool Street Gallery also exhibits sculpture, works on paper and photography. The exciting combination of different media and diverse artists encourage both collectors and admirers of contemporary art.
